Synopsis: What do daughters learn from their fathers about men? Dancing with My Father is an intimate family view of how adult love is often shaped by what a child learns at home. With camera rolling, Rock sets out to make a point about her father's emotional guardedness, that it was hurtful, that it had a ripple effect which extended into her own marriage. Her father’s struggle to meet her halfway and yield to her questions while the world is, in effect, watching, is the surprise of this family drama. With his help, Rock combines self-analysis and dynastic saga as she traces her family demons from a tiny Jewish community in Slovakia, to the immigrant neighborhoods of Cleveland, Ohio during the early 20th Century. In the process she finally learns to dance with her father and not around him.
Production Credits: Dancing with My Father is produced, directed and written by Marcia Rock; photographed by Marcia Rock, Jimmy Garland, Adrian Mihai and Jenny Perlin.
